The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations, serve as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. These 17 Goals are interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is crucial to achieve them all by 2030. NSS NSUT CELL proudly aligns itself with the vision of the United Nations and actively supports the SDGs, reaffirming its commitment to fostering sustainable development and creating a positive impact on society.
Goal 1: No Poverty
NSS NSUT Cell belief that poverty goes beyond income, encompassing the lack of access to basic needs like food, education, and healthcare. Addressing poverty requires empowering marginalized communities and reducing systemic inequalities. Key activities include providing quality education and vocational training to enhance job opportunities and supporting small businesses through microfinance programs. Governments and organizations should also focus on affordable housing, universal healthcare, and robust social protection systems to reduce vulnerabilities. Public awareness campaigns can engage communities in tackling local poverty issues. Collaborative efforts from governments, private sectors, and civil society are essential to achieve inclusive economic growth and ensure that no one is left behind. Together, these initiatives can create sustainable solutions to break the cycle of poverty and build a more equitable future.
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
NSS NSUT Cell in collaboration with UEFO NSUT organized a workshop in government CoEd school, Nanak Heri on the Bio Footprints. A skit was performed by the volunteers on the impact of ‘Good health and nutrition’. The skit highlighted the benefits of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good sleep habits. It also educated the students about the adverse effects of unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. The students learned about the importance of making informed choices about their diet and lifestyle. The activity created an awareness about health and nutrition, and motivated students to adopt healthy habits for a better quality of life.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
NSS NSUT Cell organized various health programs like Nutrition workshop at Gov Co-Ed school,7 Day Yoga workshop, International Yoga Day celebration at Vegas Mall, Dental camp, Health Checkup camp, Red run in order to achieve this goal. The SDG of Good Health and Well- Being aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. It focuses on reducing mortality, improving maternal and child health, combating diseases, and providing universal health coverage. Key strategies include vaccination programs, better sanitation, access to affordable medicines, and mental health support. Promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening healthcare systems are vital for achieving this goal. Collaborative efforts from governments, healthcare organizations, and communities are essential to create equitable and sustainable health systems, ensuring a better quality of life for everyone.
Goal 4: Quality Education
NSS NSUT Cell organized a workshop on UPSC Preparation, in collaboration with Prepp IAS, it was a highly informative event that emphasized the importance of a systematic and strategic approach to cracking the exam. A 10-day basic computer literacy programme was conducted and took place in the CAD Lab, Block 5, NSUT, and it aimed to provide essential computer skills to underprivileged children and create an equal opportunity for them to learn and grow. Quality Education aims to ensure inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all. It emphasizes access to education, skilled teachers, and lifelong learning. By focusing on literacy, digital skills, and gender equality, it empowers individuals to build better futures. Collaboration and investment in education systems are key to achieving this goal.
Goal 5: Gender Equality
NSS NSUT Cell SDG aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by ending discrimination, violence, and harmful practices, and ensuring equal participation in leadership and decision- making. To achieve this goal, efforts should include promoting equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Laws must be enforced to protect women’s rights, and gender-based violence eradicated. Providing equal pay for equal work, encouraging women’s representation in leadership roles, and fostering gender-sensitive policies are essential steps. Additionally, community awareness and cultural shifts are key in changing societal norms. Collaboration between governments, organizations, and individuals is vital to create a more inclusive, gender-equal world where women and girls can thrive.
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
NSS NSUT Cell in collaboration with Niine Foundation organized a Sanitary Pad Distribution Drive at NSUT campus for the girl students. In addition to providing free sanitary pads of Niine, the organizers also aimed and thus contributing to the cause of making the sanitary products more accessible and affordable for all students. More than 1500 sanitary napkins were distributed on the campus. It not only left an impression on the girls across the campus that menstruation is not a taboo subject, but it also showed that one can feel at ease discussing it with friends and family. SDG Goal 6 aims to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all. It focuses on improving water quality, reducing pollution, and managing water resources efficiently. Key actions include building water infrastructure, promoting hygiene, and addressing water scarcity. Collaboration is essential to ensure equitable access and public health.
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
NSS NSUT Cell seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. It focuses on increasing the use of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro while improving energy efficiency. Key strategies include expanding electricity access in rural areas, investing in clean energy technologies, and promoting energy conservation. Achieving this goal will reduce environmental impact, support economic development, and improve living standards, especially in developing regions. Collaborative efforts from governments, businesses, and communities are essential to transition to a sustainable energy future for everyone.
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
NSS NSUT Cell aims to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. It focuses on creating job opportunities, improving labor conditions, and fostering entrepreneurship. Key actions include ensuring fair wages, promoting workplace safety, and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Encouraging innovation, expanding access to skills training, and reducing inequalities in the workforce are essential for fostering economic growth. Governments, businesses, and international organizations must collaborate to create sustainable job opportunities, reduce poverty, and achieve long-term economic stability for all.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
The volunteers of NSS NSUT Cell were invited to a panel discussion on "Development of an entrepreneurial mindset in students." The discussion examined the challenges faced by an entrepreneur attempting to launch a new venture, its solutions, and how we may raise the enthusiasm for entrepreneurship at our university. Another subject addressed by the students was the distinction between what we study and what we ought to study in real life. To celebrate India's G20 leadership, visits were organized for National Museum and Inauguration of the International Telecommunications Union Area Office and Innovation Centre Grand Inauguration of India Mobile Congress. SDG Goal 9 focuses on building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industries, and fostering innovation. It aims to improve accessibility to essential systems and encourage eco-friendly industrial practices for long-term, sustainable growth.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities
NSS NSUT Cell strives to reduce inequalities within and among countries by promoting social, economic, and political inclusion for all people, regardless of their age, gender, disability, race, or ethnicity. This goal emphasizes the need for equal opportunities in education, employment, and healthcare. It encourages efforts to reduce income disparities and improve access to resources for marginalized communities. Key strategies include strengthening social protection systems, ensuring fair wages, and addressing discriminatory laws and practices. Achieving this goal fosters greater social cohesion, reduces poverty, and drives more inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Governments, organizations, and communities must work together to implement policies that promote equality and leave no one behind.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
NSS NSUT Cell had organized a 7day Special Camp in our university adopted village, Nanak Heri from 25th to 31st December. The primary focus of this camp is rural upliftment by raising awareness about cyber security, women's empowerment, gender discrimination and other issues. We also conducted numerous Plantation and Plogging Drive in Nanak Heri and Badusarai. We promoted the Viksit Bharat Movement and organized various activities: North Zone Inter University Table Tennis Tournament (Women), Visit to Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, Health and Dental Camp, Voter ID Campaign, Women Empowerment, Plantation Drive, Cyber Security. SDG Goal 11 aims to create inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities by promoting affordable housing, better transport, and environmental protection. It focuses on reducing pollution, ensuring access to basic services, and fostering community participation for resilient urban growth.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
NSS NSUT Cell organized an oath-taking session against drug abuse in the Administrative Block of NSUT Main Campus on 26th June at 5pm. The event was attended by university employees, staff, and students, including the Registrar, Prof. Sanjeeve Thakur, and the Chief Executive Engineer, Er. Pradeep Deswal. The session aimed to initiate proactive measures towards establishing a drug-free nation, gathering to partake in the E-Pledge on their personal mobile handsets. It was taken through the MyGov platform issued by the Narcotics Control Bureau. A workshop aimed at addressing the grave issue of drug addiction on the International Day against Drug Abuse. Brahma Kumaris delved into various aspects of drug addiction and its prevention. Students engaged in an insightful discussion on the detrimental effects of substance abuse on individuals, families, and society as a whole. Officials from Dwarka District Police also shared their thoughts on the need of rehabilitation programs and community support systems. SDG Goal 12 aims to promote sustainable consumption and production by reducing waste, improving resource efficiency, and adopting eco-friendly practices across industries and communities.
Goal 13: Climate Action
To replenish Mother Earth, in Netaji Subhas University of Technology, 75 Sandalwood saplings, an indigenous species of trees, were planted to celebrate 75 years of Indian Independence on campus, to develop an ‘Amrit Vatika’. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, esteemed Deans, distinguished Faculties, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Praveen Saroha and NSS NSUT Volunteers, together celebrated India’s valor, unity, and journey to freedom, paying homage to our nation’s soil and progress through this plantation. The plantation also aimed to contribute to the ecological well-being of university premises and promote the growth of trees. SDG Goal 13 focuses on combating climate change by reducing emissions, enhancing resilience, and promoting sustainable practices. It emphasizes the need for global cooperation and adopting renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
Goal 14: Life Below Water
NSS NSUT Cell focuses on conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. It aims to reduce marine pollution, including plastic waste, and protect marine ecosystems, such as coral reefs and fish populations. Sustainable fishing practices are crucial to prevent overfishing and ensure the health of marine biodiversity. This goal also highlights the importance of increasing scientific knowledge, developing marine technology, and promoting sustainable practices in coastal and marine areas. Governments, industries, and communities must collaborate to address these challenges, protect the oceans, and ensure they remain a vital resource for future generations. By tackling climate change and improving marine conservation, we can secure a healthier ocean ecosystem and safeguard livelihoods dependent on marine resources.
Goal 15: Life on Land
NSS NSUT volunteers were granted the opportunity to attend the third session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, jointly organized by the esteemed Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on 11th of March at Vigyan Bhawan, in the heart of New Delhi. The event comprised a comprehensive exhibition, showcasing a vast array of innovative products and services in the field of disaster risk reduction, including fire and safety equipment, relief and rescue tools, rehabilitation aids, medical and emergency preparedness supplies, cutting-edge space technologies, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The exhibitors included a blend of both private and public sector companies, as well as start-ups, research and development organizations, and many renowned IIT institutions.
Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
NSS NSUT Cell in collaboration with Delhi Police, organized an awareness programme on “Cyber Crime” celebrating Delhi Police Week. Shri M. Harsha Vardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, and Shri Madan Lal Meena, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, along with a team of officials from the Delhi Police, conducted the session. The programme began with an overview of various cybercrimes such as phishing, malware, and ransomware. The police officials explained the modus operandi of cybercriminals along with the valuable information regarding warning signals. The students also learned the importance of using strong passwords, regularly updating software, and security softwares to prevent cyber attacks. Police officials emphasized the need for caution when sharing personal information online and not to click on unknown links or download files from suspicious websites. A cyber security training session for newly enrolled students. This session was led by Shri Harmeet Singh Randhawa, ACP from the Cyber Crime Unit at IFSO, Special Cell, Delhi Police. He is experienced in various fields including cybercrime investigation, law, forensics, and psychology.
Goal 17: Partnerships
NSS NSUT Cell focuses on strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development. It emphasizes the need for collaboration between governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations to achieve the SDGs. Key actions include mobilizing financial resources, promoting technology transfer, enhancing trade, and fostering capacity-building in developing countries. By working together, countries can share knowledge, expertise, and resources to overcome global challenges. Strengthening partnerships is essential for ensuring that all goals are met and that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
